Ways to help International Students attending Ohio University
Anne Sparks recently shared information about how we can help International Students who are living in Athens but have limited resources for housing and food. Here are a few suggestions from a June email from Hylie Voss and others.
1. Financial Assistance - There is a Ohio University sponsored fund to help those in need over the summer months. Learn more about the emergency relief fund administered by OHIO’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) at this link.
2. Provide food by donating to Cat’s Cupboard. That website has ways to donate financially or by ordering specific foods. If you want to purchase foods to directly donate to Cat’s Cupboard, International students compiled a list of foods they are familiar with and know how to prepare at this link.
3. Host an incoming international student. If you are able, you can temporarily open your home to one or more of the 250 new international students OU expects this fall. Many of them will not have arranged housing, and you can only imagine what it is like to find housing in Athens in mid-August, especially for those who don’t know their way around and don’t have transportation. If you live in Athens and could host a newly arriving international student for a week or so until they can arrange housing, please fill out this form at this link.
