| Eduard's humanitarian parole has expired, and he no longer has legal status. Because he has applications pending for asylum and renewal of parole, he has legal "presence". He is allowed to stay, but has lost his health care, Pell grants, and right to work. He had to reapply to work. The filing fee for doing so was increased to $775. The intent of all of this is clear: to force refugees to leave, and many are doing so. |
| But as Christians, we welcome the stranger even as our costs increase, and they have increased dramatically. All college fees are paid for this semester, and he will be getting new health care this week with the attendant premiums, deductibles, and co-pays. If you would like to join our efforts, contributions can be made to our tax-exempt non-profit, New Beginnings Athens Company, in care of Jim Coady, treasurer, 41 Strouds Run Road, Athens. Every small donation is very much appreciated. Nevertheless, the government's actions have only strengthened my resolve, and I will see that Eduard finishes his education, is safe, and has health care.
