Dear all,

Important community support information:

  • Ordering Keith Wasserman's book - Hopefully you heard the announcement about Keith Wasserman and Christine Pohl's book Good Works: Hospitality and Faithful Discipleship being released in the last week or so.  The church will be doing a bulk order to support a local bookseller AND the authors.  Cost is $13.59 per copy--much lower than anywhere else.  The office will be taking orders through Monday, Aug. 2nd.  To order, please sign up on the form found by clicking here, or call the office.  To pay, please give us a few days for Wanda to include a link on our Tithe.ly site.  Alternatively, you can drop a check in the mail or put one in the offering plate made out to Christ Lutheran Church with "Keith's Book" in the memo.
  • Volunteer Opportunity with Wall that Heals
The Cleland's son-in-law, Boone Troyer, is executive director of Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau and has asked them to spread the word that volunteers are needed for The Wall That Heals. The Visitors Bureau is a sponsor of this replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial and its mobile Education Center which will be on the Ohio University campus Wednesday, July 28 to Sunday, August 1. Located at Tailgreat Park at the corner of Richland Avenue and South Shafer Street, the display will be open 24 hours a day with volunteer help.  Volunteers are needed for set up and tear down, as well as to assist visitors. Volunteer coordinators will help train volunteers. All volunteers will be required to wear a mask or face covering and follow social distancing guidelines. Volunteering with the Wall That Heals is an opportunity to show support and respect for those that served during the Vietnam War and to help educate younger generations. This would also be an opportunity to honor Lou Childress and others that are suffering the after effects of Agent Orange exposure while they served in Vietnam.  The Clelands will be volunteering Saturday, July 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Three more volunteers are needed for that shift, as well as openings for different days and times. Sign up here. Ignore the green start buttons on that page. Scroll down the page to view the various time slots. More information is also here.
