November 18 – Intergenerational Event

Saturday, November 18th at 9:30am meet at the Christ Lutheran parking lot and we will car pool to the new Discovery World on Market Science Center in Parkersburg, WV. While the Discovery World is geared for students that are elementary aged, fun will be had by people of all ages. For groups of 15 or more tickets are just $5 per person. Children 2 and under are free.

From there we will head down Market Street to the historic Blennerhassett Hotel to see the annual Festival of Trees. Come for a day that dazzles the brain with science and warms the heart with peace. Please RSVP to the office.

November 19 - Ruined Readers Book Club

Please join us Sunday, November 19, after service for a discussion of The Book of Delights, by Ross Gay (2019). This is the fall selection for the Ruined Readers Book Club, facilitated by Corrie Callaghan. This book club is a ministry of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, and covers four books per year on the topics of spirituality, simplicity, social justice, and community. This quarter's book is on the spirituality theme.

From the Publisher: The New York Times bestselling book of essays celebrating ordinary delights in the world around us by one of America’s most original and observant writers, award-winning poet Ross Gay. The winner of the NBCC Award for Poetry offers up a spirited collection of short lyrical essays, written daily over a tumultuous year, reminding us of the purpose and pleasure of praising, extolling, and celebrating ordinary wonders.

Some ideas for sustainable ways to obtain the book include:

  • Order it through your local library. This takes longer, but it’s free – and ensures everyone in the community can read the book!
  • Buy from a Black-owned bookstore. Check out Bookshop.org for a list in your state.
  • For buying online, try BetterWorldBooks, an ethical online bookshop and certified B-corp founded by the University of Notre Dame.
  • Purchase from your local community bookshop.
