You’re warmly invited to join the Equity & Justice Committee for a six-week book study of Redeeming Eden: How Women in the Bible Advance the Story of Salvation by Dr. Ingrid Faro, beginning this Thursday, January 22 at 6:00pm on Zoom. This scholarly yet very readable book offers a fresh, groundbreaking look at God’s true message about the role of women in Scripture. Drawing on the original biblical languages and ancient cultures, Dr. Faro challenges long-held assumptions—for example, she shows that the word often translated as “rib” in the creation story is better understood as “side,” revealing men and women together as essential partners in upholding God’s world.

Dr. Ingrid Faro (PhD, MDiv, ordained minister) is Interim President and Professor of Old Testament at Northern Seminary in the Chicago area and an internationally recognized Old Testament scholar and teacher of ancient languages and culture. She has presented around the world, including mainland China and Eastern Europe, and is the author of works such as Demystifying Evil and Evil in Genesis. We are especially blessed that she will join us on Zoom the first evening to introduce the book and its themes, and again at our final gathering to offer a wrap-up.

We will meet each Thursday at 6:00pm for six weeks, discussing two chapters at a time. The Introduction will be included in the first session, and the Epilogue in the final session. All meetings will be on Zoom from 6:00–7:00pm, except for the final in-person potluck dinner and wrap-up with Dr. Faro on February 26. If you prefer or need to attend that last session via Zoom, we can arrange that as well. We hope you’ll join us for this unique opportunity to engage deeply with Scripture, expand our understanding of God’s vision for women and men, and grow together in faith and fellowship.
